Transportation Council to Discuss Central Avenue West Corridor Study

The Planning Committee will also review a local and regional transportation planning study solicitation.

ALBANY, NY September 26, 2025The Planning Committee of the Capital Region Transportation Council (Transportation Council) will convene on October 1, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. Planning Committee members will hear a presentation on the Central Avenue West Corridor Study, a Linkage Program planning study funded by the Transportation Council and the Town of Colonie. The study area includes the section of NYS Route 5 from the Village of Colonie line to the Town of Niskayuna line, a three-mile section with a long history as the Capital Region’s “main street”. The purpose of the study is to identify strategies to encourage high-quality, mixed-use development and to promote safer mobility options for all transportation system users. Draft recommendations for the study area will be reviewed.  

The Planning Committee will also act on an amendment to the 2022-2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Village of Nassau’s Intersection and Pedestrian Upgrades project related to a change in federal fund sources. Additional action items include review and approval of a draft resolution to support NYSDOT targets for safety performance measures and review and approval of the FY 2026-2027 Local and Regional Transportation Planning Studies solicitation, including Linkage Program planning studies.
