Economic prosperity depends on a safe and efficient transportation system. Arterial management has been, and will continue to be an important tool to improve transportation system performance in the Capital District. A comprehensive arterial management program that promotes properly located and spaced driveways and controlled intersections, use of raised medians, and emphasizes connected streets, pedestrian and bicycle treatments, and transit access, in the end, supports a safe and efficient arterial street system for all users and enhances a community’s quality of life – both of which are key to every community’s economic base.
The New Visions 2030 Plan supports the development of good access management programs that provide uniform standards and procedures, and that promote their fair and equal application. The New Visions 2030 Plan recommends that the CDTC staff continue to work with State, county, and municipal governments in arterial management planning.
