In Motion: the Plan to 2050

Introducing In Motion: The Plan to 2050

The Transportation Council’s New Long-Range Transportation Plan for the Capital Region

In Motion:the Plan to 2050

To the Residents of the Capital Region,

On behalf of the Capital Region Transportation Council, I am pleased to present our new metropolitan (or regional) transportation plan known as In Motion: The Plan to 2050. The Plan outlines transportation policy and funding priorities in the Capital Region through the year 2050, developed in consultation with residents, businesses, visitors, transportation providers, and state, regional, and local government leaders.

The Plan includes an inspiring vision for the region’s future transportation system and promotes the goals of safety, mobility, access, livability, and resilience. Maintaining the transportation system in a state of good repair, providing clean and efficient transportation options, supporting economic development and transportation-supportive land use planning, and ensuring the transportation system is safe, resilient, and reliable for the movement of both people and goods are among our top priorities.

The Transportation Council’s collaborative and comprehensive transportation planning process is a model of regional cooperation. While the future may be uncertain, we believe this Plan provides the guidance needed to make the right, cost-effective investments in the region’s transportation system for many years to come. These investments will be monitored to ensure progress is being made to achieve our regional goals.

Implementing this Plan will take all of us. We look forward to continuing our collaboration as we work to keep the Capital Region “in motion”.

Sincerely,

Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan, City of Albany
