ALBANY, NY October 1, 2026 – The Planning Committee of the Capital Region Transportation Council (Transportation Council) will convene on October 7, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. The meeting agenda includes action on a solicitation for Transportation Planning initiatives to be undertaken in 2027. An estimated $300,000 in federal planning funds has been reserved to support local government and regional planning studies through the Community Planning/Linkage Program, which funds integrated land use and transportation plans such as corridor studies, trail feasibility studies, and local land use plans, as well as ADA Self Evaluations and Transition Plans.

New for the upcoming year is regional transportation planning support to implement the Capital Region Vision Zero Safety Action Plan. Up to $2.0 million in federal safety funds have been reserved to support further exploration of priority safety locations identified as part of the Vision Zero initiative. Eligible initiatives include highway safety investigations to explore and document cost effective safety countermeasures intended to reduce crashes and the preparation of benefit/cost ratios needed to apply for construction funds through highway safety programs. The Transportation Council will also act on the approval of NYSDOT’s Safety Performance Measures for 2027.

The Planning Committee will also hear a presentation from CDTA on their August 2026 Route Performance Report for the 2025-2026 fiscal year (Apri 1 – March 31). Additional discussion items include the Transportation Improvement Program and project administrative modifications, outcomes from a recent HUD Thriving Communities workshop, and the status of regional transportation planning initiatives.

The full Planning Committee meeting agenda and other information is posted on the Planning Committee webpage. The public is encouraged to view the meeting via the Transportation Council’s YouTube Channel live.   To submit comments, questions or to register to speak, call (518) 458-2161 or email info@capitalmpo.org.
