Open House and Virtual Meeting Announced for the Broadway Multimodal Resiliency Study

Join us to provide feedback on the draft study and roadway concepts.

ALBANY, NY June 13, 2025 The Capital Region Transportation Council (the Transportation Council) in partnership with the Cities of Albany and Watervliet, the Village of Menands, and Albany County are hosting a public open house on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 4PM to 7PM at the North Albany Branch Library meeting room located at 616 North Pearl St, Albany NY 12204. The public is welcome to stop by anytime to meet with the project team and share feedback on the draft study, including proposed roadway concept designs for the Broadway / Route 32 corridor from Clinton Avenue in the City of Albany to 25th Street in the City of Watervliet.

Input gathered during the open house will inform recommendations contained within the Broadway Multimodal Resiliency Study, which is funded through the Transportation Council’s Unified Planning Work Program. The draft Broadway Multimodal Resiliency Study identifies and evaluates design concepts that increase Broadway’s resilience to extreme weather events by integrating natural systems and transportation systems to manage stormwater, improve air quality, reduce heat stress, and expand the interconnectivity of active transportation and transit to promote viable low-carbon transportation choices.

A virtual meeting presenting the same content will also be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 6PM to 7:30PM. To attend the virtual public meeting, please register using this link: https://tinyurl.com/4hezzmws

The Broadway / Route 32 corridor is vital to the region as it connects several destinations, downtowns, and neighborhoods between Albany and Watervliet and carries the Capital District Transportation Authority’s (CDTA) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Blue Line. Albany County’s recently completed Climate Resiliency Plan also identified this corridor as vulnerable to both flooding and heat stress, both of which are anticipated to intensify as extreme weather events become more common.

To oversee the planning process a Study Advisory Committee has been assembled to facilitate intermunicipal and intergovernmental collaboration. The total study cost is $115,000, which includes $100,000 from the Transportation Council, $10,000 from Albany County and $5,000 from CDTA.

Albany County and the Transportation Council welcome all at these public meetings and understand that accessible meetings benefit people with and without disabilities. If you require any assistive technologies, language translation, American Sign Language interpretation, and/or adaptive strategies to attend and engage at these public meetings, please contact Liz Podowski King with Highland Planning at 585-649-1210 or liz@highland-planning.com at least three (3) business days in advance of the meeting you plan to attend.
