Albany County and the Transportation Council are hosting a public open house to share concepts related to the Broadway Multimodal Resiliency Study
ALBANY, NY December 12, 2024 – In partnership with the Cities of Albany and Watervliet and the Village of Menands, Albany County and the Capital Region Transportation Council (the Transportation Council) are hosting a public open house on Tuesday December 17, 2024, from 4PM to 7PM at the Menands Fire House located at 250 Broadway, Menands, NY 12204.
The public is welcome to stop by anytime between 4PM and 7PM to meet with the project team and share feedback on the draft proposed roadway concept designs for the Broadway / Route 32 corridor from Clinton Avenue in the City of Albany to 25th Street in the City of Watervliet. There will be a brief presentation at 5:30PM, during which Albany County and the Transportation Council will provide opening remarks, and then the consultant team will give a brief overview of the study’s goals, key findings from the baseline corridor assessment, and the proposed roadway concept designs.
Input gathered during the open house will inform recommendations contained within the Broadway Multimodal Resiliency Study, which is funded through the Capital Region Transportation Council’s Unified Planning Work Program. Expected to be completed in Spring 2025, the Broadway Multimodal Resiliency Study will identify and evaluate design concepts that increase Broadway’s resilience to climate change by integrating natural systems and transportation systems to manage stormwater, improve air quality, reduce heat stress, and expand the interconnectivity of active transportation and transit to promote viable low-carbon transportation choices.
The Broadway / Route 32 corridor is vital to the region as it connects several destinations, downtowns, and neighborhoods between Albany and Watervliet and carries the Capital District Transportation Authority’s (CDTA) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Blue Line. Albany County’s recently completed Climate Resiliency Plan also identified this corridor as vulnerable to both flooding and heat stress, both of which are anticipated to intensify as climate change gets worse.
To oversee the planning process a Study Advisory Committee has been assembled to facilitate intermunicipal and intergovernmental collaboration. This study will be funded, in part, with Federal Highway Administration Metropolitan Planning Funds in the amount of $100,000. The funds are matched by $10,000 provided by Albany County and $5,000 provided by CDTA.
