Join us at this innovative “Pin Up” session to help build a shared vision of roadway safety in the Capital Region.
TROY, NY June 30, 2025 – In partnership with the City of Troy, the Capital Region Transportation Council (the Transportation Council) is hosting a virtual public pin-up meeting on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 5:30PM to 7:00PM via Zoom Virtual meeting. The purpose of the session is to provide the public with an opportunity to share feedback on the draft concepts to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and motorists in downtown Troy. The focus will be on the following roadways:
- River Street from Grand Street to Hutton Street;
- 4th Street from Broadway to Grand Street;
- King Street from Federal Street to River Street; and,
- Federal Street from the Green Island Bridge to 5th Avenue
To join the virtual pin-up session, you must register in advance at https://tinyurl.com/mv7zu2pv. After registering, you will receive a link via email to access the meeting.
Community members are invited to participate by reviewing the draft concepts and plan recommendations with the project team at the pin-up by asking questions and sharing comments, or by reviewing the draft concepts online and leaving comments (available on the project website at www.capitalregionvisionzero.org).
Input gathered over the course of the next few weeks will inform the final stages of development of the Transportation Council’s Capital Region Vision Zero Safety Action Plan, which focuses on reducing fatal and serious injury crashes to an eventual goal of zero on all public roadways in the Capital Region.
The Transportation Council welcomes all at this session and understands that accessible meetings benefit people with and without disabilities. If you require any assistive technologies, language translation, American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, and/or adaptive strategies to attend and engage at this public workshop, please contact Liz Podowski King with Highland Planning at 585-649-1210 or liz@highland-planning.com at least three (3) business days in advance of the public workshop.
The development of the Capital Region Vision Zero Safety Action Plan is a collaborative effort between the Transportation Council and the Cities of Albany, Saratoga Springs, Troy, and Watervliet, as well as the Village of Green Island and was made possible by a $1.15 M grant from the Federal Highway Administration through the Safe Streets and Roads for All Program with additional support from the New York State Department of Transportation. This effort includes all roadways within the Transportation Council’s planning area of Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady Counties (except the Town of Moreau and Village of South Glens Falls). The Plan will result in area speed limit recommendations and a prioritized listing of actionable projects including capital transportation projects.
Vision Zero is a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together diverse and necessary stakeholders to address fatal and serious injuries. Vision Zero acknowledges that many factors contribute to safe mobility — including roadway design, speeds, behaviors, technology, and policies — and sets clear goals to achieve the shared goal of zero fatalities and severe injuries. This effort will be guided by the Safe System Approach, which focuses on building multiple layers of protection to both prevent crashes from happening in the first place and also minimizing the harm caused to people when crashes do occur. This approach shifts away from conventional thinking about safety because it focuses on both human mistakes AND human vulnerability, designing a system with many redundancies in place to protect everyone.
