ALBANY, NY June 20, 2023 – The Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC) is pleased to announce that it will now be known as the Capital Region Transportation Council (Transportation Council). The new name and related rebranding became effective on June 1 following a six-month exploration as to how to increase engagement, enhance organization recognition, and better connect the mission of the organization with elected officials and community members. There are no planned changes to the organization’s structure, and it will remain the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Capital Region.
The work of the Transportation Council is guided by a Policy Board of state, regional, and local government officials currently chaired by City of Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan. A professional staff of thirteen full-time employees, led by Executive Director Sandra Misiewicz, AICP, provide technical expertise and ensure the organization meets federal transportation planning requirements. In addition to assigning over $100M annually in federal transportation funds to capital projects, the Transportation Council provides numerous transportation planning services to local governments, the New York State Department of Transportation, and regional organizations such as the Capital District Transportation Authority. Members of the community are invited to participate in the transportation planning process through Advisory Committees, community surveys and community planning studies.
Over the next several weeks, the Capital Region Transportation Council’s rebranding will become more apparent, beginning with a new logo being unveiled today. The new logo will be incorporated into social media, newsletters, email signatures, and more. Future plans also include a new website.
Capital Region Transportation Council Chair and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “This new branding will help educate our residents on the importance of this vital organization. Significant federal and state funding flows through the Transportation Council to help repair our roads and replace our bridges, and this change will bring additional awareness to those investments and the partners who make them possible. I commend Executive Director Sandra Misiewicz and the entire team at the Transportation Council for undertaking this thoughtful and comprehensive re-engagement with the entire Capital Region.”
Transportation Council Executive Director Sandra Misiewicz said, “We believe our new name will distinguish us from our partner organizations, allowing us to build a recognizable brand and cultivate our public image as the go-to resource for transportation planning in the Capital Region”.
“The Capital Region Transportation Council is a tremendous partner to CDTA,” said CDTA CEO Carm Basile. “This new name and brand recognition effort will help the organization distinguish itself throughout the community, whether it’s through their valuable technical studies for cities and towns, advisory committees, community surveys, or planning studies. It’s important that we give community members a voice when it comes to transportation issues in the region, and the Capital Region Transportation Council will continue to do that.”
